MidNite Sleep Aid

In This Review

Sleep Disorders are growing rapidly in the U.S. and throughout the world. Insomnia and lack of sleep are linked to such problems as weight gain, accelerated aging, memory loss, diabetes, bodily fatigue, high blood pressure, and a weakened immune system. In order to meet consumer demand, new products are being rushed onto shelves in every store and promoted all over the internet. Among these products are MidNite Sleep Aid and MidNite Sleep Aid PM.

MidNite Sleep Aid purports to provide a solution to sleeplessness in an easy chewable tablet that can alternatively be dissolved in water and drunk. The makers of MidNite Sleep Aid claim that it works differently than other products by not knocking you out but by creating a normal sleep-cycle through a blend of natural ingredients that can be taken up to three hours before sleep and any time during the night up to three hours before the time to wake. MidNite Sleep Aid is touted as the pill you can take if you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t fall asleep again.

MidNite Sleep Aid Ingredients

MidNite Sleep Aid believes so strongly in their product that they have patented the formula. The main ingredient is 1.5 mg of European melatonin. The distinction of European is unclear, but presumably added because it sounds good. Melatonin itself is hormone produced by the pineal gland in the brain. It has been found that it is released during darkness to stimulate a sleep response. Increasing melatonin levels through supplements have been found to induce sleep and create regular sleep cycles. It is strongly related to the natural circadian rhythms of the body and can even help alleviate jet lag. Research has also been conducted on its ability to prevent aging and the growth of cancer. Besides melatonin, MidNite Sleep Aid contains a blend of lavender, lemon balm, and chamomile, all of which have been used to induce relaxation, but none of which has been proven effective. MidNite Sleep Aid PM contains the added ingredient, bromelain, derived from pineapple and used to treat minor pain.

MidNite Sleep Aid Side Effects

Of supplements used to treat to insomnia and sleeplessness, the ingredients of MidNite Sleep Aid have among the fewest potential side effects. The side effects of chamomile are only possible allergic reaction. This is rare. Lavender and lemon balm are also relatively inert substances.

Melatonin, at recommended doses, is considered safe. Some minor side effects that are possible are elevated blood-sugar levels, low blood-pressure, and mood changes. Melatonin should also be avoided by pregnant women and women who are breast feeding. The bromelain contained in MidNite Sleep Aid PM may incur the additional side effects of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and thinning of the blood. Care should be taken when taking bromelain while menstruating.

Does MidNite Sleep Aid Work?

MidNite Sleep Aid, while better than many other natural remedies for sleeplessness, is not the best product on the market. Their marketing claims of taking it in the middle of the night are not to be followed, as after taking any supplement for insomnia, a full-night’s rest is needed for maximum benefit. The product is all-natural, but contains ingredients that have not been fully tested, are unnecessary in treating sleep disorders, and could cause possible unwanted side effects. There are better products on the market.
